Doctor Developed, Patient Approved

To learn about the inspiration behind Orgain, it may help to share the story of how it all began. My passion for nutrition comes from the perspective of both a doctor as well as a patient. Following my cancer diagnosis at a young age, I was in desperate pursuit of a nutritious drink made with high quality, organic ingredients… and quickly realized that such a drink did not exist I made it my missions to formulate a nutrition shake that would actually make a difference in my health. It had to be certified organic, lower in sugar, high in organic protein, and also be free to artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and colorings.

After exhaustive work and research, and a lot of time in my kitchen, I finally developed the perfect formulation that would later become Orgain – a product that not only helped me in my health journey, but would ultimately help others.

Today, I’ve expanded the Orgain line to include plant-based protein powders, grass-fed whey protein, nutrition shakes for kids and vegans, and event plant-based protein bars. With every new product we make, I still have one goal: to provide the best and most delicious nutrition to gain health, gain energy, and gain the most out of life.

Eating organic isn’t a trend, it’s a return to tradition. Less than 100 years ago, the food our ancestors ate was grown in their own gardens or on neighboring farms. Terms like “clean”, “real”, and “organic” food weren’t used, because food was just that: clean, real, and organic. While eating an organic diet is a matter of personal preference, we believe such a diet can make a distinctly positive difference in one’s health… more >

Orgain's Nutrition Focused Leader

Andrew Abraham, MD may be the founder and CEO of Orgain, but the best part about him is that he’s just your average guy that happens to have an incredible passion for nutrition, health and wellness, along with a fresh perspective on life that he wants to share with the world.

At only 17 years old Andrew was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma and underwent over a year of grueling treatments. It was during this time, that Andrew realized that the nutritional odds were stacked against him and was forced to forge his own nutritional path to ensure his survival. Thankfully with the love and support of family and friends, he survived and went on to complete medical school and eventually started Orgain.

Flash forward to today, Andrew has added husband and father of two young boys to his already impressive resume. While life has become increasingly busy he continues to strive each day to live a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle not only to stay well, but also to set a good example for his boys and everyone around him.

We sat down with Andrew to conduct a Q&A and learn about his daily routine and gain some insights on how an entrepreneur, husband, and father finds the time (and energy) to live the healthful lifestyle, he is so passionate about.

What did you eat today?
Every day for the last 10 years or so I make it a point to start my day with my power smoothie recipe. It includes Orgain Plant Based Protein Powder, frozen kale, berries, spinach, Orgain Superfoods Powder, MCT oil, blended with either water or almond milk.

The rest of the day varies quite a bit, but there are three things that remain constant. One, I choose organic foods as often as possible. Two, I make it a point to include anti-inflammatory and plant based foods in each meal. And three, wild caught fish, like sustainable salmon makes regular appearances as lunch or dinner proteins. Of course, there is always a little wiggle room for a sweet treat or other indulgence, but finding that balance is key.

What do you do maintain an active lifestyle?
I exercise at a gym one hour, 3-4 times per week, but the days that I skip the gym are the best. On these days, I make it a point to spend time outdoors with my wife and my boys playing basketball or soccer, or going for a swim.

Are there any other health tips/tricks you’d like to share?
Honestly, it may sound cliché, but the key to balancing all the stresses that life can throw at you is to always make time for laughter. Maintaining strong social connections and relationships with family and friends, keeps me smiling and helps me to remain present and grounded so that the stress can’t really grab ahold of me.
