What is Orgain?

Orgain® is a line of nutritional products including nutrition shakes, protein shakes, protein powders, protein bars, and supplements made with nutritious, high-quality ingredients. Why is it called Orgain?

The name Orgain was created by the founder of the company, Dr. Andrew Abraham, by combining the words “organic” and “gain.” Orgain has a deep commitment to using organic ingredients, and we believe that people can “gain health, gain energy, and gain life” through clean, wholesome nutrition. Dr. Abraham has personally experienced dramatically improved health and energy by making changes to his diet.

Why does Orgain taste so much better than other nutritional products?

The inspiration for the Orgain formulations comes from Dr. Abraham’s kitchen, so the focus is on real, food-based ingredients. Using premium ingredients (when possible) like natural flavors and certified organic fruits and veggies powders makes for delicious products that taste like they come from the kitchen instead of a lab.

Are any of the top 9 major allergens* (soy, wheat, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, milk/dairy, peanuts, tree nuts or sesame) found in Orgain's products?

Most Orgain products are made without eggs, wheat, soy, and crustacean shellfish ingredients. Peanuts, tree nuts, fish, wheat grain, milk dairy and sesame are used as ingredients in select products; however, several Orgain products are made without any of the major allergens*. If any of the 9 major allergens* are present in the product, a “contains” statement will be included on label immediately after the list of ingredients. Please check the list of ingredients for each specific product you are considering. *Food allergen declaration is as defined by the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 and the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research Act of 2021.

What is the shelf life of Orgain products?

Most of our powder products are guaranteed best quality 24 months (depending on the product) from the date of manufacture if left unopened. Ready-to-drink shakes, bars, and almond milk are guaranteed best quality 12 to 15 months (depending on the product) from the date of manufacture if left unopened. The Best If Used By date printed on the packaging indicates when the product is expected to be at its peak quality and flavor. Products may still be safe to consume after this date; however, we do not recommend consuming a product past the Best if Used By date as quality, taste or texture may gradually decline.

How should I store my products?

Orgain powders, bars, unopened ready-to-drink shakes, and unopened almond milk are safe when stored at room temperature. Because they taste best when served cold, ready-to-drink shakes, and almond milk can also be stored in the refrigerator. Ready-to-drink shakes should be consumed within two hours after opening if not refrigerated and within 72 hours after opening, if refrigerated. Almond milk should be refrigerated after opening and consumed within 7 days. Powder products mixed in to a drink or shake should be consumed within two hours if not refrigerated and 24 hours, if refrigerated.

Are any Orgain products eligible for reimbursement?

Orgain Organic Nutrition Grass-Fed Protein Shakes, Organic Nutrition Plant Protein Shakes, Kids Protein Organic Nutritional Shakes and Kids Plant Protein Organic Nutritional Shakes have HCPCS reimbursement codes. Several national durable medical equipment companies (DMEs) carry Orgain and can help eligible patients obtain insurance coverage for oral nutrition use or tube feeding. I’m a Registered Dietitian and would first like to start by sharing how much your Orgain product has helped my medical condition, Crohn’s Disease. I was on the Specific Carbohydrate diet for almost 2 years in clinical and biochemical remission, however I had a flare up and was unable to get control until I started Exclusive Enteral Nutrition (EEN), by mouth, with your Orgain All-in-One Nutrition Shakes, for one month straight. I went into clinical remission for about 6 months, then figured out if I do Partial Enteral Nutrition (drinking 2 shakes for breakfast everyday) I’m back into remission. Your product has literally been my medicine!

I've never found a plant based protein powder specifically that is so loved by so many athletes, and I'd love to be able to recommend it to other people.

I have been using the Orgain beverages for over 2 years in my GI practice. I have been enjoying talking to patients about the product as an alternative for nutritional support. I've had several patients tell me this is one of the only nutritional drinks they are able to tolerate with gastroparesis (our patient population). As an oncology dietitian, many of my patients and families have expressed a desire to use more natural nutrition supplements during their treatments. Many patients are interested in reducing their overall intake of added sugars and processed ingredients. I have Chrohn's Disease, a host of food allergies and problems just getting in enough nutrition. I have little to no appetite most of the time, and have to eat very small portions.
